Hello everyone, and welcome to A.P. Economics for the year 2011-2012. I hope that you will find the class both enjoyable and interesting...that's the goal, anyway.
Indeed, you are taking economics in one of the most exciting periods in economic history, and I would argue that the great ideological debate of your time is going to center on economic issues. You have done wisely to choose to educate yourself on these matters. Kudos to you. The blog is intended to be a kind of forum where you can bounce ideas off each other outside of class, and actually apply some of this economics stuff to more "practical" areas. After all, the last thing I want you to think is that economics is some sort of abstract field that has no relevance to the outside world.
You do not have to create a Google Account to make postings, although if you have one feel free to use it. All you have to do is click on the blog post itself. Then, click on "Comment." You will be given a box to type your comments. Where it says "Choose an Identity" select "Name/URL" and type at least your first name and last initial, or your first initial and last name. I have to approve all comments, so don't expect to see yours pop up instantly.
Your first blog post is simple. Please post what you did over the summer, and two of the following: your favorite movie, book, band, or television show. This assignment is due by midnight on Sunday, September 4th.

Hello Mr. Long and fellow AP Econ students.
Over the summer, I worked. Everyday. I work at AMC which means I have become a professional popcorn popper. I visited a few colleges and took a few day trips to Ocean City. Not the most exciting summer.
Favorite movie: Rocky Horror Picture Show and Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Favorite band: The Pretty Reckless and Brand New.
Favorite television show: The Office and Awkward.
I moved to Catonsville from Perry Hall in late June. I also went to Six Flags over the summer. My favorite movie is The Breakfast Club and my favorite television show is Criminal Minds.
Hi Mr.Long! So over the summer I worked constantly (had to save up for college stuff and all). It was fun though, the people I worked with we're exciting. Sadly I didn't go on any vacations but I still had fun down in c-ville. My favorite tv show would probably be House, it's a good show. I also really like Glee. One of my favorite movies would have to Zombieland, great movie.
Hey Mr. Long. Long time no see. Over the summer, I read. Lots and lots of books. Now I'm sitting in my dorm room wondering how in the world Rachel McCloud got me to do this. We're not even at the same college. Anyway I digress.
My favorite movie has probably changed since the first time I wrote this. I am really into "Inception" right now. It's such a good movie, and it really makes you think about what's going on.
My favorite band...hm? Let's see I'm really digging Maroon 5 right. Especially after they released their last single. It's so awesome. It's a really good dance song.
My favorite television show is still Supernatural. It still grabs my attention even though it should have stopped after the 5 season...they are now starting the 7th. I'm going to stick to it until the end.
Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and say hi and that I really miss your class.
Oh and sorry I bombed the AP tests. I think I did so well in your class because of you and how you teach, but then I got to the test and I couldn't think.
I hope you have a good year with the new Government and Economics students. :D
Hi Everyone!
This summer I took a trip to Italy! I went with my aunt and mom for 8 days. We saw Venice, Florence, Rome, and some of the Tuscan countryside. It was beautiful!
I also spent a ton of time working as an intern at a lab at the University of Maryland Medical Center. We used rats as subjects which was interesting to say the least..
At the end of the summer I went to the beach at Avalon, New Jersey where I've been going my entire life.
Favorite Show: Modern Family
Favorite Book: The Da Vinci Code
Hello everyone! Over the summer I partook in many diverging activities. I learned the Japanese healing practice known as Reiki; I am currently level 2 out of 3 at the moment. Among other things I purchased a war hammer which I named Beregast the Divine. I smash things with it.
As for my favorite movie it is probably a tie between Braveheart and Pride and Prejudice, though I enjoy Asian cinema as well.
I don't really have a favorite band as I enjoy a huge variety of music. Anything from traditional Chinese to Celtic pleases me. I guess if I had to name a band it would be Manowar.
I don't watch TV often, but when I do, it is usually Deadliest Warrior.
Hey! Over the summer I worked in the HR department at my dad's company scanning personnel files for eight hours a day. Super exciting work I know. We also have property in Southern Maryland near Solomon's Island where we are building a house so I spent a number of weekends there. As for a big trip, we went to the southern New Jersey shore to Ocean City and Margate to spend time with close family friends.
My favorite movie of all time would have to be Remember the Titans, always a classic. As for music, I love lots of different kinds of music and many artists but I would have to say that the Avett Brothers have become my absolute favorite.
Hey Everyone! Over the summer I took a class about Global Politics and Human Rights, and visited family friends in Williamsburg, Virginia. I also started preparing for college applications.
My favorite movie is either Braveheart (shoutout to James Granderson) or Forrest Gump.
Favorite Bands: Blink-182 and Mumford and Sons
Hi Mr. Long! I worked at Camp Herritiage at CCBC all summer, I visited a couple of colleges, and I went to Busch Gardens.
Favorite Movie: Drumline and Preminition.
Favorite Book: The Secret Life of Bees
Um, hello.
This summer was, well...largely uneventful.
Instead of doing something useful with my time like, say, getting a job or interning or taking a class, I spent most of my days and nights in my basement with a box of Oreos, a bag of Chex Mix and all fifteen seasons of South Park.
I did get a kitten, though.
My favourite movie? Planet of the Apes (1968), hands down. Okay, and The Big Lebowski. And Scarface.
Band? Against Me, Alkaline Trio, Sublime...
Show? Dexter. And well, yeah, South Park.
Colin D.
Hello.Over the summer I worked at a bakery and slept a lot. My favorite movie is Superbad. And my favorite tv show is also the office.
Hello everyone.
Over the summer I worked a lot at a bakery and also slept a lot. My favorite movie is superbad and my favorite tv show is also the office.
Hello. Over the summer I started my first job at Diamond Ridge Golf Course. It was awesome because I got free golf. I visited Penn State University, Bucknell, Lehigh, and Delaware. My top pick is probably Penn State. Also, I spent a lot of time in Deep Creek Lake, which is also where I am going this weekend. My favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Reel Big Fish, and Foo Fighters. Also, my favorite TV show is Two and a Half Men.
Hello Mr. Long,
So this summer passed by very fast, with me feeling like it never even came here at all. Right after school ended, I went to a para-military all-boys camp that lasted the longest week of my life. I've never been so wrong before in my life, nor have I had to do so many push-ups until that bitter sweet week. I then spent the next six weeks in EMT school and basically lived at my fire house. This was my busiest but favorite part of my summer. I've found that I am an action junkie and love nothing more then a good (or bad depending on how you look at things)ambo call.
My favorite book is hard for me to answer. I love the authors Louis L'Amour and Bernard Cornwell. If you give me anything they wrote, I'll read it and love it. Gaurenteed.
My favorite artist is Mat Kearney. He's the man.
Hello Mr.Long over the summer i spent my time relaxing and enjoying the extra sleep. I also spent a week in Bethany Beach relaxing by the pool and spending quality time with my family. My favorite tv show is its always sunny in philadelphia and i have a pretty eclectic music taste.
Hey Mr.Long,
My summer was actually pretty boring. I mostly slept but i did go to the beach a couple times, went to kings dominion, and went on a couple road trips.
My favorite movie: Gran Torino
Favorite book: Harry Potter
Favorite Show: Suites
I had a very chill summer. As I said yesterday, it was comprised mostly of "eating, sleeping, sleeping, and some more sleeping." While i spent the majority of my time recharging the ol' battery.I did stay somewhat active.
I visited a bunch of colleges with the madre, logged in lots of driving hours with the padre, learned how to wake board for the first time, and even fired a muskets and canons at fort Mchenry(volunteered as a reanactor[war of 1812]).
My favorite movie has to be a tie between "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Children of Men." For those who haven't seen"Children of Men," It's a movie that takes place in the U.K. It's in the near future, and the last fertile women gave birth 18 years ago. The protagonist, played by Clive Owen, is a crestfallen man who goes through hell in order to protect a pregnant virgin(!).
The greatest band that's still alive and kicking, would have to be Death Cab for Cutie. While my favorite records are "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" by Wilco,"Pinkerton" by Weezer, and "The Devil You & Me" by The Notwist, It's Death Cab that has been able to repeatedly release incredible albums even from their humble beginnings, recording off of an 8-track in their college apartment.
Just in case someone might actually read this besides Mr. Long(although it would be cool if he checked these bands out as well), I'd like to list other bands that need to be checked out as well: The Thermals, Matt Pond PA, Brendan Benson, David Bazan(along with Headphones, and Pedro The Lion), Phoenix, Yuck, and Say Hi(Say Hi To Your Mom).
Hello! Over the summer, I spent a lot of time working at Jennings Cafe, and sleeping. I also went to Ventnor City, Cape Henlopen, and went white water rafting in Deep Creek.
My favorite bands/artist- Jack Johnson, Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, The Kooks
My favorite movies- Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Much Ado About Nothing, Secondhand Lions
Greetings people who are reading this right now. My summer was chill, I worked. Alot. And then right before school started I went to go visit my family in California. I explored Yosemite, and then I flew back here literally right before the "hurricane" named Irene got here. Umm. My favorite band is Placebo, with Mumford and Sons and The Police right behind. I don't think I can single out just one movie as my favorite, and I hardly ever watch television, but when I do, it's WWE Monday night Raw. I watch it religiously. So there.
Hi everyone!
This summer I spent most of my time at Deep Creek Lake, where my family has a cabin. It was kind of a mess, so we spent the beginning of the summer fixing it up and the rest of the summer out on the water. That's pretty much all I did this summer.
My favorite band is Mumford and Sons and my favorite movie is The Help. I just saw it and I loved it.
Hmm..over the summer I worked and then got fired from one job, but got another job right away. I took two trips to Ocean City too. That's about it, my summer was pretty lame. My favorite movie is Step Brothers because I can always use a good laugh and my favorite TV show is any reality TV. I know everyone thinks it's horrible, but I LOVE IT! :)
Hey, guys. I didn't do much over the summer. I went on vacation to our New Hampshire Lake House, nothing else really. Didn't get a job either.
Favorite TV Show - WEEDS and That 70's Show
Favorite Movie - Inception
Hello everybody! My name is Doug Alderson and I an in your AP Econ class. Over the summer I interned at Creative Concepts Group Incorporated, which is a foundation and drilling company. I worked in the office area and learned the basics of how an office works. Over the summer my family also bought a boat that we have taken out multiple times. I have also started reading the kite runner which, so far, is a very good book. One of my favorite bands is Van Halen.
Hi everyone. I went to Ocean City some this summer but other than that I didn't do much. My favorite television show is the office and my favorite movie is School of Rock.
Hola Mr. Long! THis summer i enjoyed a plethora of sleep which was perfect after a stressful junior year. I also went to ATlantic City where i was conned by a bunch of no good carnies! Being nearly broke, i am now despretely trying to replenish the Alvin Blesson Car Fund. My favorite movie would have to be THe godfather which i saw for the first time this summer on some random old movie channel....gotta love the classics. In doing so, however, i was able to further appreciate my favorite show, The Simpsons, particularly the one episode about Fat Tony's son...HILARIOUS!!!
Hello Everyone. Over the summer, I went on vacation to some states in the midwest. The only other things I did over summer were eat, sleep, hang out friends and work.
Favorite movie:The Boondock Saints
Favorite band: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Favorite television show:SportsCenter

Over the summer I raged super hard with my lax team and ripped too much twine to count. I also worked on my flow and ripped all the sleeves off my shirts. My favorite TV show is easily Teen Wolf because of all the lax gods they have on there rippin' and tearin'. Also, my favorite band is Nickelback because they rock hard and Chad Kroeger's flow blows away any competition. Chyaa
Live, Love, Lax
Hey guys.
I'm so mad I just remembered this but anyways... This summer I took a math class at CCBC; visited Barnard, Bryn Mawr, and Gettysburg colleges; and played lots of soccer. My favorite movie is Law and Order SVU and my favorite movie is a tie between The King's Speech and Pride and Prejudice.
It's a little past midnight on Sunday, September 4th, but over the summer, most of my time went to excessive exercise (running and lifting), cleaning an entire house, and working on overly ambitious projects (mostly car-related). My favorite band is Benny Benassi (pre-Electroman, of course). My favorite show is probably IASIP or basically any show on movie channels (HBO, Showtime, ect.).
Hello,
Over the summer I worked at the summer camp at CCBC, Camp Heritage as a counselor. I also went to the beach for a week. I also spent a week at the UMBC soccer camp and saw the Manchester United vs Barcelona game in DC.
Favorite Movie: The Hangover
Favorite TV show: Sky Sports News
Hello Mr.Long and everyone else! Over the summer I spent most of my time in Pennsylvania, where I did just about nothing other than sleep all day. Other than that I went to a few colleges, but my summer was mainly uneventful.
Favorite television show: Dexter and Wilfred
Favorite book: The Forever War
Greetings to all and sundry. Over the summer I went to Herrington Manor, which is near Deep Creek, and Minnesota. My favorite book is Mad Science: Experiments you can do at home-but probably shouldn't by Theodore Gray, and my favorite song is the gameplay music from Dwarf Fortress.
